Are interest rates for savings higher outside the USA?

Are interest rates higher in foreign countries than the USA? I already know about higher yield savings such as ING etc.. in the usa but was wondering if there are any banks in stable countires that I could open a savings accoun in that would yield a higher rate of interest, say 9 -10percent.

There are even countries that offer 20 - 30%, but not on your dollar account.

The problem is that once you need the money back in dollars, you may find that deflation and the exchange rate has brought you back to how much you would have saved in the US, if you do not altogether loose all your money or cannot access it, because of political upheavals, war, economic debacles etcetera inthose countries.

A safer way, if you are ready to take risks, is to place your funds with a securities broker who does internatonal placements and pray for the best. (Please watch the rates as a hawk day by day - Nay, minute by minute -, if you can take the stress.

The higher the interest rate, the more likely it is that the country has other problems (example instability). Mutual funds are quite often the better way to go if managed by a reputable firm in your home country. They will invest overseas in a %26quot;basket of different countries.%26quot; They will also be more in tune with changing economic conditions.|||My bank in Australia has fixed interest rate on balances of $5,000 and above, and that is at 2.5%.

Awesome hey, and we get to pay to have the account open, $5.00 per month and let%26#039;s not forget transaction fees for using another banks ATM.|||Think about it, if there was a country ANYWHERE that paid 9-10 percent on a savings account, why would anyone live anywhere else? I could put $500,000 in a savings account, draw $50,000 a year with close to zero risk, and NEVER run out of money! LOL
